How to change personal information and tax details to match my tax documents

If you are receiving notifications that your tax form (typically a W-9 or W-8 series form) needs to be re-uploaded, it is likely due to a mismatched name, address, and/or Tax ID that differs from your uploaded tax form. To update your personal information and tax details on Canopy, go to the top right hand corner of the platform and select Manage My Account. 

From there, follow the steps below to update an Individual investor profile: 

Select "Edit Profile" to update the profile details. 

Ensure that the Full Legal Name & Street Address fields match what is listed on your tax documents.

Proceed to the next page to double check your Social Security Number is input correctly as well. 

Once confirmed, select Continue to Signature Block to confirm the signature information is correct. Once confirmed, you will be prompted to hit Save & Complete to finalize the changes! 


The process for an Entity is very similar. To update an Entity Investor Profile, follow the below steps:

In your Entity Investor Profile, verify that the Entity Name and Your Address fields match what is listed on your tax documents. 

The major difference in the Entity workflow is the Entity Questionnaire requirement. As you complete the AML Compliance Form, ensure that the Entity Tax ID # or Equivalent Identifier field has the correct ID listed, based on the below information:

  • Foreign Entities - this will be the identifier listed in 8 to 9 on the W-8BEN-E form.
  • Foreign Individuals - this will be the identifier listed in 5 to 6 on the W-8BEN form.
  • For US Entities - this will be the identifier listed in Part 1 on the W-9 form. (Note: Single member LLCs & Revocable Trusts are treated a disregarded tax entities and require the SSN of the LLC member or grantor of the trust.)

Once all information is updated, be sure to hit Submit to save your changes!
